Wequedong Lodge of Thunder Bay

Cancer Screening Research Project

Benefits for First Nations Communities

These interviews will help us to better understand the barriers to cancer screening and gaps in the screening process for First Nations in Northwestern Ontario. This will guide us in identifying specific ways to improve cancer screening in the region.

Some of the interviews will focus more specifically on the Wequedong Lodge Cancer Screening Program and will help to assess and improve the program. By strengthening the cancer screening program at Wequedong Lodge, we can determine how this model may be applied effectively to other sites.

We will share the findings from this research project widely with interested stakeholders throughout Northwestern Ontario and throughout the province. The findings will also be an important input into the development of an action plan to improve cancer screening in Ontario, as a part of a broader research project that Cancer Care Ontario and Sunnybrook Research Institute are working on together.

The research project is funded by Cancer Care Ontario and by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR).
