What is the Wequedong Lodge Cancer Screening Research Project?
Wequedong Lodge of Thunder Bay has partnered with the Aboriginal Cancer Control Unit at Cancer Care Ontario and Sunnybrook Research Institute on a research project focused on improving cancer screening for First Nations in Northwestern Ontario.
The Wequedong Lodge Community Advisory Group is working with the Toronto-based researchers to develop and carry out the research project.
Together, we have defined two overall research objectives:
- Explore how First Nations in Northwestern Ontario understand and experience cancer screening
- Understand and support the Wequedong Lodge Cancer Screening Program
To address these objectives, we have come up with a research plan that includes interviews with First Nations community members, primary care providers and community health workers in Northwestern Ontario.
